some very tiny minnows!
<p>I fished a smal stream last night that I had never been to before, I was expecting to catc just stickebacks but the stream turned out to be a bit deeper than expected so there where a few other fish as well. here are the pictures.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>common european minnow. phoxinus phoxinus.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jennyplustilly/CIMG6768.jpg" style="width: 525px; height: 348px;" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>and a bigger one...</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jennyplustilly/CIMG6769.jpg" style="width: 525px; height: 348px;" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>then I had a few tiny ones that must have been about 1&quot;!</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jennyplustilly/CIMG6770.jpg" style="width: 525px; height: 348px;" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jennyplustilly/CIMG6773.jpg" style="width: 525px; height: 348px;" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>then I found a couple sticklebacks.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jennyplustilly/CIMG6774.jpg" style="width: 525px; height: 348px;" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>I tried to get a good profile shot of this fish but he was so jumpy I could only get his back,&nbsp;I was actually really pleased with this pic, it shows the strange shape in the dorsal area quite nicely.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af339/jennyplustilly/CIMG6776.jpg" style="width: 525px; height: 348px;" /></p>

thanks ben, sticklebacks in

thanks ben, sticklebacks in particular can be very dificult to photograph, the one in the picture dug it's spines into my hand as I let it go! as much as I enjoy catching sticklebacks and minnows, I really wish there where some different species of micros in the streams in my area, so far I haven't found anything else within a 30min drive. but I hope to track down some stone loaches one day.

Nice fish and pictures!  I

Nice fish and pictures!  I just walked out to my backyard stream to try for sticlebacks.  I'm not sure which species yet, but I know they're there because I found one in a baitfish trap.

The stream is thick with roundnose minnows... and they swarm anything that drops into the water.  Any tips for somebody who wants to catch the odd sticklebacks in there?

What level are the minnows

What level are the minnows feeding at? sticklebacks feed at any depth so you could fish on the surface if the roundnose minnows are feeding on the bottom or on the bottom if the minnows are taking surface baits. use a haevy split shot to get the bait down fast.

@Hugbot, if you're not
@Hugbot, if you're not familiar with American coins, that one is about a centimeter across...

...which puts that fish at 1

...which puts that fish at 1.5cm, or 5/8th inch? if so that would be some kind of record for sure! I aim to get one thst small soon too.

It might be as much as .8
