Most people that know me know that I hate the winter. It's far too cold! I hate the dripping, frozen snot that runs down your face... I hate the need to dress in countless large wintery layers... I hate the frozen wasteland, and I especially hate when the fish are hard to find and harder to catch because I don't have any ice fishing gear! That being said... with the cooler temperatures showing up now, I'm actually quite excited. Of course, I think I'm excited in due to the attitude I gave the season last year. I came at the on-coming winter with a positive outlook... and spent the positive energy fishing!
When I reminisce on the 2023 autumn and winter, I enjoy thinking about the adventures I continued to go on with my cousin. Some of my favorite fishing memories come from then: a large 9-lbs carp I caught a large local dam that I didn't expect to hook into, the master angler-sized redhorses I was catching at that same dam, the illegal trout fishing I had partaken in (and the legal trout fishing I had done in Iowa and Tennessee). That winter, I even made a new friend and there is one particular spot that has pretty outstanding fishing in the dead of winter. That new friend and I went out to that spot countless times in the winter and we caught some pretty good fish. That friend and I are now best of friends and he's my go-to fishing buddy. His name is Yuhon and we've gone on many more fishing trips together.
When I remember those fun memories, you can see that I'd be excited to relive them and try to make newer memories for the following years to come!
I'm looking forward for chances at big suckers and redhorse, carp, catfish, wipers, buffalo, and even trout fishing (legally this time around...)! I can't wait to go on more and more of these exhilerating adventures and I'm excited to see what comes next!
