First Sturgeon
<p>Down here in MO these fish just aren&#39;t caught everyday. I have been fishing for years trying to catch a sturgeon and today I caught not one, but 5. And I think one of them is a lake sturgeon which has always been one of those fish I always dreamed of catching. Sturgeon have always been that fish that seemed so elusive and almost impossible to find here. I was fishing a power plant and I have never seen these fish before. I took photos of the bottom of their heads for ID help. They all looked basically the same except for the one I think is a lake. One of them was also tagged by our conservation department. Are these all shovelnose and one lake? Thanks guys, I&#39;m always happy to share my success and hear all of yours as well. Pictures may be out of order, sorry.<img alt="" src="https://photos-5.dropbox.com/t/2/AAAukjcrcZa-GVyhpJsdoDVVHeiQdl8RNBphp8MdhRgNhg/12/265250316/jpeg/32x32/1/_/1/2/2015-11-19%2014.22.58.jpg/EM-j8_gBGP8eIAIoAg/LA6pqfylbe0FOxftHtN-qMp5qWUJZ7z9F85SfHKA76g%2CZqMNa2Z6g_gac7VEChBoTvhafzK7KHSI5cO0Dwm2POc?size=1024x768&amp;size_mode=3" style="width: 768px; height: 1024px;" /><img alt="" src="https://photos-1.dropbox.com/t/2/AAAiQIogjbOHktXZ4FHJY8vYmEY9vRfV7PpmYKxxuqwzvg/12/265250316/jpeg/32x32/1/_/1/2/2015-11-19%2014.39.43.jpg/EM-j8_gBGP8eIAIoAg/_acN-PYpQ72-E5Qc4ipxa6Usu1n2FP7kQ1Z_6nQ06iI?size=1024x768&amp;size_mode=3" style="width: 768px; height: 1024px;" /><img alt="" src="https://photos-2.dropbox.com/t/2/AACg1FB-qz7V3saBDShzAln4upIMj3D-boHChv4_HZiXwQ/12/265250316/jpeg/32x32/1/_/1/2/2015-11-19%2013.50.30.jpg/EM-j8_gBGIsfIAIoAg/oalntuDA3OBJwh3anaIA2p6I9KZ5ly0m-Ox7zHbTeeA?size=1024x768&amp;size_mode=3" style="width: 768px; height: 1024px;" /><img alt="" src="https://photos-3.dropbox.com/t/2/AADAMBEbVuVUR8Sd8A1KH5XGgI5YeLozFe5XFWSDN40elA/12/265250316/jpeg/32x32/1/_/1/2/2015-11-19%2014.39.27.jpg/EM-j8_gBGP8eIAIoAg/ylIb0rQ8HpGJ9QkOXyeYaFCGzi8XMvFvKNMTXjhcuB4%2C3KQFAhwSa3o4oMxCGajGDtYetW8prNlAjOS_Hh-q6rU?size=1024x768&amp;size_mode=3" style="width: 1024px; height: 768px;" /><img alt="" src="https://photos-5.dropbox.com/t/2/AABbPPZ4y6EZCUSUHmj_yfUsWVNEHvn5OQIgckgFEFS07g/12/265250316/jpeg/32x32/1/_/1/2/2015-11-19%2013.51.39.jpg/EM-j8_gBGP8eIAIoAg/gvCrXCvO2XKvdHhlFTLdnh3U4jD-LHMXmnkyxeiFFvk?size=1024x768&amp;size_mode=3" style="width: 768px; height: 1024px;" /></p>

Ditto

Your lifelist entries for both sturgeon are correct- that is indeed a Lake Sturgeon on your profile! Congrats on catching a fish that's elusive for your region :)

You should still post those pics though- from that river, one might be a Pallid! Regardless, the more pics of fish we get, the better.

Congrats on your catches. Fir

Congrats on your catches.

First one is definately a laker. That is the one we have here on several inland lakes and rivers. I have caught several myself over the years in the 36-40" range. In fact, the DNR has been re-introducing them into several river systems over the past 10 years or so. We have a limited hook and line season every September with a season limit of one over 60". We also have a winter spearing season on the Winnebago system that closes when the set limits are close to being achieved. 100lb fish have been increasing over the years with several at or above the 150lb mark.

Any fish species is worth catching.
