catch & decease - commercial saltwater fishing

Thought I'd start posting a few non angling spring saltwater catches to to liven up the saltwater forum section since it's rarely used. Managed to locate a few Crevalle Jacks yesterday, only had one shot at em after glassing the first half of the day. They showed their head wake after dropping out of a freshwater creek and fell to a seine net. These fish are crazy fast and extremely elusive at times, quite a formidable and challenging prey to stalk, always makes for an exciting catch. I'll try to put up some interesting videos and photos in the near future as Jack fishing is just getting underway and soon to be all out fast paced warfare. This catch came before the head of a storm with an eerie calm turned malicious, chasing us off the water, but not to dampen the spirit of having accomplished a hunt not deemed without some success. Photos are AM sunrise on Tampa Bay, my buddy that captains my boat pretending to do something other than driving and spotting, and the damn sexy storm front rollin in.

They don't. Large scale whole

They don't. Large scale wholesale buyers purchase them from us and sell them to whatever markets they have lined up on our continent or globally. Coincidentally I know all the jacks they buy are trucked to Canada, I'm not sure what the final product typically ends up as. They only buy from 1-4 pounders. What we get paid fluctuates based on market saturation but it's always slightly above or slightly below a buck a lb.

Decided yesterday to do the opposite of logical and endure the boating congestion today optimistic that the fishy activity would increase and show some potential, other variables be damned. Turned out to be a worthy way to enjoy a holiday in a different way while others went about their usual holiday activitys frollicking on strange jet contraptions and such.

Jacks

I'd love to angle for Jack Crevalle one day- their runs and spunk are legendary. Do you ever toss a lure out while your nets are setting? They'll hit pretty much anything, I hear.

No the methods we use are extremely fast paced and wouldn't allow for that. I have learned a lot about the habits and tendencies of the large vs. smaller jacks and located the monster Jack honey hole, thousands upon thousands of 10 plus pounders. I'm definitely bringing a rod next time we head that way.

Tackle

Bring heavy tackle! The people I've talked to about Jacks have all complained about losing their lures to them (because they were expecting redfish or snook and not Jacks), and I even watched a video of a guy breaking his rod on one. Their runs are amazing.
