Anyone know what this is?
<p>Caught this back in March in a creek with a hot dog. I think it is some sort of chub, but I want to know what kind. Thanks!<img alt="" src="http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/s720x720/599641_489830731045101_996623093_n.jpg" style="width: 537px; height: 720px; " /></p>

That's odd. I have caught a lot of creek chubs before in the same creek WAY upstream, but they were all really white with a black stripe. Why was this one  so brightly colored? And why are there like bumps all over its head?

The bumps are likely because

The bumps are likely because it's spawning.  They are called tubercules

It doesn't matter what you're fishing for, just as long as you're out there doing it.

They almost resemble a perch

They almost resemble a perch when they get like that.  That's a pretty big one too.  Nice.

They can fool ya

I had a GREAT creek chub catch last year on a trout stream.  It bit on a 0 or 1 Mepps Spinner.   Fought like a demon.  I saw that red belly and thought I had a nice brookie on.  Then I got a good look at it and I was even more excited becuase of the novelty of such a brutal looking fish with it's "horns" and red belly.
