It was safely released amd the fishermen was aware it was protected. He said he caught several that day, and has been seeing more and more each year.
Many of you guys will recognize the spot.

We seriously need to get a few boats out there this summer

Actually he looked like that in all his photos. Even the bunch of walleye he was after.
he praised how hard it fought though and said he released it unharmed.
I guess it was snagged in the snout with a jig
Love the look on his face, generic smiles get old after awhile LOL
THAT IS SUCH AN AWESOME LOOKING FISH.
Not tiny, either. Would that one of you dudes had caught it and taken a photo worthy of such a mysterious and majestic critter...
What Josh said. 3 boats with 2 or 3 anglers each with two or three rods each with two or three different baits in different(ish) spots/structure each. Fish like 8 hour shifts and relieve each other. For a week straight.
(Preferrably in the time that I's there...)
Fishn sure is neat
I will have a saturday free in about 2 weeks. I may head there with my kayaks and try plunking worms in the deep holes.
They should be stacked up for spring.
All this will depend on water and weather conditions though.
You're gonna get one, Josh.
I can feel it.
Maybe not in two weeks, But THIS must be the year.
Fishn sure is neat
Thats a good one there. Man, I would love to just hold that fish. Just to see it in person would be something special.
Josh, do you think those fish will still be there in the slack, deep water once water temps climb? I wonder if thats their resting area when their not feeding in the fast dam shoot? Or is it just their wintering area, then they spread out once the water warms? These Blue Suckers are some real stumpers....
From what the locals say this time of year they are a common "catch" by catch I dont know what exactly they mean. Most guys are jigging or deadsticking leaches on bottom so i am sure the snag count is high, but many say the fish have the hook in the mouth.
Not sure.
I am betting this is a wintering spot all the way up to the spawn. The spawn occurs in at least two spots, right below the dam here and downstream about a mile at a spot the rest of us our familiar with.
I am betting once temps rise again they will disperse>
but what I dont know about these fish could fill a warehouse.
If the water isnt moving too fast and the water not too cold I can safely paddle accross the river to the 30' hole and and drop live bait rigs on bottom.
Thats a lot of Ifs
thats pretty neat
Awesome Fish. I just may become a walleye angler on the Wisconsin.
That news reduced me to a blithering, drooling and speechless idiot.
I am going to buy a WI license. See you in two weeks.
