I cought a bunch of carp in the last few days, but this one has all his scales out of order. Is it a different species or is something else going on?

Probably from an old injury when the carp was young. Maybe a heron or eagle stuck it and thats the way it healed up around the wound. On a side note, that is one super awesome avatar you got there. I might run away screaming or pee a bit if I were to run into you on the river bank.....hahaha!
Yup, its a common carp. Could have been shot and released by a bow fisherman as well. Its hard to say exactly what caused it but almost certainly from a wound of some type.
Cool looking fish! My youngest son caught one like that up here about a month ago. I too thought maybe it was a strange breed or a partial mirror, but the general consensus was it was a wound that healed funky like a scar, which makes sense especially if it was wounded when it was very small. I'd guess scars grow on fish as they grow larger just like they do on people. Here's his:

Must have been a very large wound then. Either way you are saying it's still just a common carp right?
Oh and about the avatar, I used to do some photography and try a lot of new things, that was one I came up with :)

Nice, that does look very similar to mine. Well, common carp it is I guess :)
