So... One day next week I'll probably be getting together with Inkmaster and Tóño the Mexican to do some meat fishing for the upcoming winter. We'll probably hit the Clinch River, around St. Paul & Castlewood, Virginia. Likely targets are walleye/sauger, freshwater drum, white sucker, and about half a dozen redhorse species. I've caught about a dozen suckers of various species, and no freshwater drum, sauger, or walleye. What would y'all do to catch them?
Trout, catfish, white bass, and paddlefish are also a possibility. Those, I think I can figure out for myself.
Thanks!
Well you should know what to do to catch all those redhorse - wade around and sight fish a crawler to them or else set up along a current break and bottom-fish. With crawlers of course. Actually, what you really need to find is a good current break period. Sauger, walleye, redhorse and drum will all be found in a good location and will take a crawler. Drum shouldn't be tough...jeez they are basically a pest in any river I fish. If you were to specifically target walleye and sauger, plus drum I would suggest a plain jighead or a fuzzee grub tipped with a fathead. Hop it around those current breaks and you are sure to catch some fish. A jig/minnow combo really turns the trick on those type of fish. You could also just fish shiners on a bottom rig, that will eliminate the suckers but put those dinner fish on your line. Good luck man.,/
