Blue at the zoo...
<p>The family &amp; I went to the Bismarck zoo last saturday and to my surprize they had a nice 30&quot; female blue sucker in their large missouri river display.&nbsp; It wasn&#39;t labeled or anything so I&#39;m assuming there&#39;s a good chance it just got thrown in there under the assumption of a &quot;sucker&quot;, either way I thought it was pretty cool.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://www.roughfish.com/~roughfis/sites/default/files/blue1.JPG" style="width: 730px; height: 548px" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://www.roughfish.com/~roughfis/sites/default/files/blue2.JPG" style="width: 730px; height: 548px" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

temperment

How did it act? Did you get to see it eat anything? I would have had my face glued to the glass trying to figure out why they are so hard to catch....

Seemed active and didn't do

Seemed active and didn't do anything unusual, just swam about the large tank (15' X 6' X 4').  I don't think they're as hard to catch as they are to find.  getting the right bait to the bottom in front of their faces in deep fast water seems to be more of a challenge than getting them to bite.

Says the one person here who's gone out and caught 45 of them in an afternoon.

no that would be my brother,

no that would be my brother, he bragged to me about catching 3 of them a couple weeks ago.  it seems whenever the releases are high below the dam on that river the blues move in thick.  he's found they bite better on baby crayfish on a 3oz bottom bouncer mid channel in heavy current.  he said the key is to find a bait that the 50 other species of fish will turn down before a blue sucker and a worm in mid summer wasn't it.

OK, so your brother's score

OK, so your brother's score is higher than yours. How many did you catch last spring? More than one? I think that bests everyone else here. No need for modesty!

I'm not bitter. Really.

HE HAS PATTERNED BLUE SUCKERS?

That is much more impressive than catching them on the spawning run (which was incredibly impressive). Cathching them post-spawn is a game changer.

I think it's high time

I think it's high time someone on this site bought a small submersible (manned or unmanned) that can get down there with lights and a camera and keep an eye on the spots where it's hardest to place a hook.

if the water is clear enough

if the water is clear enough this weekend I should have something to you by monday.  I found a way to record in hi-def color from the bottom of the mighty missouri.....the only question is if a blue will show it's face.
