State record Hog Sucker??????

Hey all,

tonight I went fishing with my brother. we caught plenty of species, steady action.... great redhorse bite. At about 9pm, packing up to go my brother gets a tap tap tap on his rod. sets the hook, I see a long dark sucker. It looked like a very dark white sucker. I walked over to see the fish, as we hadn't caught any whites all day. When I neared, I saw the unmistakeable block head and goth lips! My brother has never targeted nor caught a hog sucker before. having no tape measure we measured it two ways, on a stick and then with fishing line. we took very detailed photos of the fish on the stick etc. Is there any way he can submit this released fish as a record?

16 7/8ths inches length

9 3/16ths inches girth (behind pectoral fins)

the state record is 14 1/4" x 7 1/8"

Sweet Baby Martha! That's a PIG of a HOG!

I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that all you can submit for with a photo, is the Master Fisherman certificate.

It doesn't matter what you're fishing for, just as long as you're out there doing it.

State Record

Beautiful hog! Each state is different but here in Illinois it must be kept and IDd by the fisheries biologist to become a State Record. Either way, she is one giant hog.

That's a massive hog! Cute

It needs to be weighed on a state-certified scale with an up-to-date certification date, with two unrelated witnesses. Somebody just asked this question of the DNR because they broke the lake sturgeon record on Rainy out of season.

If "if's" and "cans" were pots and pans, we'd all be living in a kitchen. Still, I'm happy to see that such a beautiful fish was released, even if it meant forfeiting claims to an official record.
