This was my largest Common Carp caught in Brown's inlet in the Glebe district of the city of Ottawa - about 11 pounds. We used to use balls of compressed 'Wonder Bread' for bait - it is amazing how long these bouncy white bread balls lasted, I guess it was the gluten! We were only able to catch Common Carp for a few weeks in the spring after ice-out. After mid-May they became impossible to catch as natural foods became available. This was before sophisticated carp baits and techniques were known in North America.

I had the exact same hairstyle back in the easy listenin' heyday of Annie Murray, Gordon and the Guess Who...I was fishing in Tofino and western ON tho way back in '73 - great pic! Any recent catches from the Maritimes? Don't think anyone's posted any local species from Newfoundland yet - freshwater especially.

Hahahahaha. Yup, I used to have great hair.  I just signed up for this joint and have posted images of the following Newfoundland freshwater fish spp. in the last few days:  Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Atlantic Salmon and Rainbow Smelt.  Other than these < and Arctic Char (rare on the island), Banded Killifish (rare micro) and American Eel, we have no other freshwater fish species!  Newfoundland has the lowest freshwater fish diversity on the North American continent.  However, we do have abundant trout and ouananich (small fw resident Atlantic Salmon).  I'm going to have to make more fishing trips to the mainland to build a decent life list.

Feel free to hit me up if you're coming to your old stomping grounds. I'm 20 minutes north of Ottawa. May is definitely the best month for species variety.

Thanks for the offer, I may just take you up on that.  I don't know when my next trip to Ottawa is going to happen...  probably next May-June-July.  My target species would include Sauger, Long-nosed Gar, Bowfin, redhorse spp. et c.
