Week 8: Improvised Lure Challenge

Show off your scrounging and improvization skills! Catch 5 standard-sized species of fish on homemade lures (no micros). This can be as simple as some glue and yarn on a hook. You can make up to 5 different lures, but they all must be homemade and you must photograph them all. No professional lure-making equipment is allowed! No fly-tying vises, bobbins, pre-made lead molds, or wire-benders. You may not use commercial lure parts that comprise the majority of the lure, such as spoon blanks, pre-formed spinnerbaits, spinner bodies, pre-made spinner blades, jigheads, or lure bodies that just need hooks attached. Lures must be used as-is and not tipped with bait or plastics! You may not use stinkbaits or fish scents, either. (The first species caught is 5 points, 1 point for each after that, 10 points if you catch all 5 - so 5/6/7/8/10 pts possible.) Include photos of all lures made and all fish species caught. Feel free to share your ideas or keep your creations secret until the end - it's all up to you. Good luck!

NOTE: Folks in species-poor areas in the far north only need three species which will score them 6/8/10 points.
