My Dad and I decided to make a trip into Wisconsin as a finale to the contest. I obviously had no hope of winning, but a fun trip is a fun trip. My mom knows a lady who owns a cabin on a lake, and about 20 min. from a river, so we stayed there.. The main target for this trip was to get a River Redhorse for the end of the contest.

(just for referance, i can't/won't name any of the bodies of water that we fished)

The first day, we fished long and hard on the river but only connected with Shortheads, Goldens, a few Smallmouth Bass, and these Hornyhead Chubs, which made fishing in the slackwater very diffucult.

We could see the River Redhorse there, but getting them to bite proved to be quite difficult. Defeated, we went back to the Cabin. While my parents sat by a campfire, i screwed around at the dock and was rewarded with this slobby Bowfin.

The next morning we went back to the river, pretty much the same story for a while. Shorts, Golds, Chubs, and Bass. Before calling lunch break, i spotted a nice sized redhorse sitting on a current break. A cast, a bite, and i thought i had a River on for a while, but it ended up being this pretty Greater Redhorse. Cool to catch, a nice bonus.

After lunch break, we were back for one last shot. This was the 11th hour. We were leaving the next morning. Again, I could see them, but getting them to bite was diffucult. Although this time, the other species didn't seem to be biting as much. I casted at many fish before finally getting a River to bite, but then missing the hookset. But he was sill there. A couple more casts, and he bit again. I connected this time, and after a nice little fight, it was time to grin like an idiot.

Thus ends my 2012 contest. It's been fun. Now it's time to enjoy the rest of my summer and start plotting for next year.

Nice job Mr.Ben. Great photos and some nice catches bud.
Sweet. What did you get the bowfin on?

Nice. Those chubs, dead or alive, would have made sweet bowfin bait.
Nice fishies Ben!
That Bowfin is a slob!
It is all perspective!

nice!
Hornyheads are major pain on that river, they would make good bait though... Glad to see you got some good Redhorsin' in.
That lake some huge Bowfin, I gotta go back there. I still have nightmares about the one that took a swat at my zara spool there... What did you get that fatty on?
Thanks dudes. I first saw the bowfin chase a crank bait, but then swim away. I couldn't get her to come back to the crank, so i spread out some cutbait which sealed the deal.
That sure is a thickish Bowfin!
Fishn sure is neat
What a sow Bowfin, did you weigh it? That River is awesome also, those big ol' lips are sweet on them. Next season I'll get mine!
