The other day, while fishing in the Spring 2016 Contest, I was able to catch what I think was an emerald shiner. However in the waning daylight, it was difficult to get a good picture. I tried cupping the shiner in my wet hand, but it wouldn't hold still. The little 3 inch long fish was flipping all over the place and I was worried he was going to take a dive into the dirt and look like a little breaded fishstick. Since most shoreline in the Phoenix area is dusty or dry grass, I usually hold fish with one hand for a photo and I put larger species like carp and catfish on an unhooking mat. I was thinking about using some sort of container to photograph the smaller fish in. Have any of you ever used one of those square specimen containers they use in fish stores to bag fish as a container to photograph micro-species?
