ice is my friend?

So, I went to the St. Croix River on Friday, expecting to see open water and eager redhorse.  When I arrived, I saw icebergs.  Uh. Oh.

Nonetheless, I decided to give it a go.  I even used a new type of rodholder I never have before...

In the end, I caught four fish.  Three goldens and a shorthead.  Not great, but a decent trip, in spite of the conditions.

Way to stick out the tough conditions! Did the fish hold in their typical places? Were the bites super light?

I think I can help you prevent such cold trips... here is a real time series of St. Croix river level and temperature.

I book marked the page and check it before every trip.

The fish were in their usual

The fish were in their usual spots.  I caught most on a current break.  I couldn't cast out too far, for obvious reasons (too many icebergs getting hung up in my line).  Most bites were light, but one of the goldens seriously hammered it, almost like a carp or catfish.  Thanks for the link!
