I'm not an expert, but that looks like a smallmouth buffalo with the downward facing mouth, maybe a black?  Bigmouths have a mouth that goes pretty much straight out the front, I could be wrong on yours though it's hard to tell in this picture, nice fish man.

That appears to be a candidate for a black. I hope you have some more photos.

It is all perspective!

I would love for this to be a black. I have several more photos including some closeups of the mouth but I dont know how to post more than one. The mouth looked pretty terminal to me, unfortunately this was the best looking side profile picture i had and he was moving his mouth during the photograph.

Holy black buffalo, batman!

I would have to agree with the ID of black buff. May I ask how you came upon such a creature?

Managed to get a second picture up using the subspecies spot. Do you folks still think its a black?

you had your ID right the first time, the first pic was just a tough one to go off

A Bigmouth with an almost subterminal mouth. Odd. You really had me going for a second there!

Yes with those other photos I would agree that Bigmouth was correct. That first photo made it look quite different. The mouth was partially cut off. Thank you for adding photos so a positive ID was possible.

I agree with a Bigmouth with the subterminal mouth.  It happens from time to time.
And every time it gets the blood pumping.
