Very cool to see a bowfin on a lure. Now that I see your location and this pic, I think I'll have to try a spot I know down there with lures to see if I can intentionally catch one like that!
Long time ago as a young man I tossed lures, mostly in lakes for bass and northern. Got a good handful of nice bowfin on all sorts of lures. Spinnerbaits like this guy did, rattle traps and even on a weighless plastic worm once. Someday I'd really like to catch one thru the ice. Seen it happen only once before.
There's a field and stream video about fly fishing for them with poppers. I don't know how common that is or how many spots it works in, but they caught one in the video.
