This silvery beaut’ is easily one of my favorite catches for 2019 so far. While 2/3 of my home state of PA is home to these gorgeous, larger cousins of the Creek Chub (one of my favorite species), the western 1/3 where I do 95% of all my fishing is, unfortunately, devoid of them. That said, I had to opportunity to head out to central PA with J Dunfee for half a day this past week, and I was able to strike gold (or rather, silver) with this stunning 12” specimen that I sight fished from a shallow river! While it wasn’t my lifer, it was the second Fallfish I’ve ever landed, and this fish was much larger than my 2016 lifer! Getting to watch it intercept my float-rigged redworm while it was perfectly lit up by the overhead sunlight was an experience I’ll never forget. And, after a great fight and several minutes of admiring this fish in the net, I’m definitely hooked on them now to the point where they’ll be a regular target in my future, regardless of the 2-3 hour drive to get into their range.
