Contest ... Yes

There will be another goddamn contest! It starts June 1 at midnight. Bear in mind that - as always - there are no micro-fishes allowed - all species must be from the approved list. Standard-sized freshwater species only. There's a link to the right for the official species list. You can't just net 50 minnows to win. Winner will get a custom Roughfish-Champion fishing rod - as always - built to the winner's specifications by me and Andy. We are expert rodbuilders and we will build whatever custom rod you want (within reason). Remember you're not trying to catch every species of fish - you're trying to catch a specimen of each species that can be identified positively from your photograph. So you need to take good photos of the fish! If the photo you take isn't good enough to establish the species, it will not count. In general the winner of this contest will rack up 40-50 species in the month of June. Yes that's a lot. You're up against the best multi-species anglers in the world. But you should still compete, even if you can't break 40. The roughfish.com spring species contest is a yearly celebration of the awesome biological diversity of the great American continent. You can get ten species in June. You can catch every species in your home waters. Every catch will be recorded and applauded here, and when you look back on it, you will be a better angler than you were before.

This is something I look forw

This is something I look forward to every year. It's a lot of fun, and yes, it makes you a better angler.

My main goals this year are 25 species and to add at least two lifers to my list during the contest. Something very possible as I have a trip planned to species-rich Southern Ontario. Really amazing how things change when one rounds the western bend of Lake Ontario.

Definitely looking forward to

Definitely looking forward to the contest again this year! I hope to break 15 species this year. I'm alot more seasoned this year and have a lot more spots to catch species in. If I still can't break 10 - I atleast want one of them to be a white sucker in honor of this site and all the cool people here.

Chain Pickerel: All the bad assery of a Northern Pike wrapped up in a smaller, prettier package.

I just joined not to long ago and just found out about this a few days ago and it sounds amazing! I'm definitely entering, very doubtful I'll win but it'll be fun to compete. Is there any entry fee and is there somewhere with the regs?

Here's the general rules:

Hi Divemaster, glad you're going to compete! You can get the gist of it here: Last Year's Contest Announcement

You have to buy a 2015 button for $5 plus shipping to compete. Obviously it'll be new button, DON'T BUY LAST YEARS! In fact I should take that down.

It's a fun time whether you win or lose!
