Well, last year was a very successful burbot trip for our group of Roughanglers. I think we caught over 150 of 'em. Let's talk about potential dates for this Winter! I have heard reports of 24" of snow in the past 48 hours near Gooseneck Bend, which sets us back but in a few weeks we will have safe ice there.

The dates I have in mind ar either Jan 4, 11 or 18. History says the 11th might be a good day to try, so that is my recommendation. Maybe we can get a report from early January and make a snap decision, each year is different.

So who's in?

I'm most likely in regardless of the date picked, assuming nothing changes on my end.
I could actually make the trip this year for the first time on that first weekend. I'll be on winter break and the next weekend I've got to drive back up to school. Pencil me in for that first weekend if we do that, though

I'm good with any of those dates.

Is this open to anyone on this website? If I could swing it, I would love to try fishing for some eelpout.
Anyone can join. When we get a little closer to the actual date, shoot me a message and I will share a map to the Secret Location - Gooseneck Bend.
The only date I for sure can not is the 11th.

Any final decision on the date for this?
Let's try for the 11th or 12th of January. Does anybody have a preference?
Either works for me
Trying to nail down a date for this. Some guys can't make it on the 11th (when I'd like to go). I can't make the 18th. The 4th is probably the date that the most can actually make it, but it might be too early. I will likely go fish on the 4th anyway -
Torn.
I'm loosely hoping to get up there the 4th and the 11th or 12th.
Let's all try to catch some burbot that day. It lines up with the past few years success and works for many folks.
Anybody can join. Come one, come all!
Corey and I will be fishing Gooseneck Jan 4th, along with a few other Roughfihers in a pre-fishing Burbot Brigade. If anyone would like to join, let us know!
I called the bait shop up there and the lady told me last she heard they told folks to stay off the river ice. That was after the rain episode last week. Now, I don't buy her report as absolutely informed, but she still said it. Yesterday they got a foot of snow also. I am very leery about the ice conditions right now at Gooseneck, but still willing to take a look and be careful this Saturday if others feel the same way. We would need to be smart and use the buddy system potentially bring a long rope.
Thoughts?
I'm planning on being up there around dawn on Saturday morning hopefully with a brave iowegian in tow, I'll bring my ice saw to spud our way out, I've got several long section of good rope. I'll wear the water wings I got for my birthday. Snow shoes might be a good idea this weekend, nay a great idea. If the ice sucks we could formulate some sort of ramshackle plan B or Plan C.

I bet that concerning ice is downstream where ice is often concerning... that's consistent with the past and the local news cycle. If people will be there on Saturday I'll be there, also with spud and water wings but I doubt they'll be needed. Slush might be nasty but I'm doubtful of any physical safety concerns.
Anybody wanna carpool?
Lots of fish were caught, many small males meaning the run should be going for a while.
How's the snow around there, I know it was knocked down a bit but wanted to make sure that there's room to pull in and park the riv?

There were lots of folks out there, and most parked along the side of the road in a line. Technically not legal but there were no problems.
A Roughfish member was up there yesterday and they nailed the burbot pretty good. Middle of the day. Said lots of males but many good sized ones, plus a handful of big females that were released.
Gonna be cold Saturday with a high around 4 degrees, but it might be prime action.
Looks like a stiff breeze too. See you all up there tomorrow, I might be a wimp and spend most my time in the shack but it will still be a good time
Hopefully someone can share an auger with me since my recoil is snapped off lol. See all in the am!

It was sure fun to see everyone again. Big shout out to Goldberg, Tony, and Moose. My friend and I came under gunned and didnt have heavy enough jigging spoons. But you guys made it possible for us to catch them pout. And you Mr. Goldberg, you are a very generous man. Thank you again mister.
DT don't embarrass me now, you're welcome man I'm just glad ya got into some fish! I wasn't using that spoon anyways better it catch fish than not get jigged.
