I did a bit of research and the white on the tail distinguishes this sauger from the saugeyes. Also the saugeyes side blotches are faint this one has pretty defined blotches.
I'm not going to pretend to know much about the whole walleye/sauger/saugeye thing, but I'm pretty sure it's a saugeye. No matter whether it's a sauger or a hybrid, it's definitely not a purebred walleye.
We should all welcome the debate on uncertain fish. I guess the main reason this one can't be nailed for sure is that we can't see the markings on the dorsal fin?
At any rate, per Roughfish rules, this perhaps hybrid fish can be entered as either a saugeye or walleye (it's clear that it's not a pure sauger). What most of us have done when an ID is not certain is to include that in the comments. At any rate, this 'debate' string will inform readers when viewing the photo.
So should I delete this post and put this with the walleye as a hybrid? I meant more that there is debate when you search for sauger vs saugeye online. Also I guess it's a lesson to take pics of the fins for identification purposes.
No, you can leave it under Sauger. There's plenty of discussion under it explaining that it is likely a hybrid Sauger x Walleye (Saugeye), but there's a slight chance it's just a weird walleye.

Looks to me like a saugeye.

I disagree. That is totally a saugeye. Don't they stock saugeye in McBride? I do know they do a lot of saugeye stocking in Iowa lakes.

Debate on the Sauger/Saugeye is OK
