Unique jack king salmon

Tuesday, February 6, 2018

Was fishing dollies in Ninilchik Creek on the Kenai Peninsula when this guy hit and fought like a little demon.  When it jumped I couldn't quite figure out what it was .  Finally beached it for a few pictures before release and realized it was just a very uniquely colored jack king salmon.

Yeah, that is interesting. Almost sort of looks like a rainbow trout.

I'm completely jealous, Doc.  What causes the pink color?

Only 3 more months until trout season here.

I assume they turn pink for a little while before they turn red.
