Who wants to hit up Gooseneck bend this year? Not sure about ice conditions, so any input is welcome. I do know that last weekend they got 9" of snow. Probaly on just a couple inches of river ice. But it's nice and cold now, so we should be good to go in a couple weeks. Any input on a date to go? How bout Jan 14? Jan 6?

Is there anyone up there that could check ice conditions?
It is all perspective!

Maybe me and Marge will go put an eye on it.

I've seen reports of 5-7" for Duluth Harbor, going off past experience I'd wager that Gooseneck is 7"+. I don't have any local contacts really anymore but that spot gets ice pretty early comparatively
Been thinking about this
O Lord it's a big one. If you let me get em' in I promise I let em' go.
Yes I do. I'll be there. All dates are good for this guy.
Ya just Can't catch um from the couch.
I'll try my darndest to go whenever
After a couple few slow years personally for me I finally once again got into a nice streak of them last year up there. I'd be down to go whenever as well.
Did you guys ever decide on a date? We'd like to make it up there and fish with you guys again it was a blast on the Root, but I've got a couple big events at work coming up on Saturdays, so not sure we could make it happen.
Is that too late? I had some things come up and probably can't make it before that. What are you guys thinking?
I think I can make that work. Do you need a four wheeler or can you walk out to the area? Will need an address or coordinates to find you guys too looking forward to fishing with everyone again!!!
I just talked to a walleye guy who I work with. He says Boy Scout landing has 10-11 inches of ice. Upstream at Gooseneck should be thicker. He said he thinks the pout are already on their way back out to the lake. Somebody fishing off Clyde boat launch got 4 or 5 eelpout this morning. I don't know how much I would let this report alter your plans. His focus is not on pout.
Yeah I think the 20th will be too late. This coming weekend would be great - but I can't make it. I think if others want to organize an outing for this weekend, go for it!
I HOPE to make it up there this coming weeked. I will reach out to dudes who I have phone numbers for and see what's shaking. I know BillStrunner and Wrecked Angler are hoping to join me so far. Also I've started pickling several jars of pike for the weekend already for those pickled pike eaters. I am happy to provide my phone number to folks who want to go up this weekend. Shoot me a PM otherwise I can just post my number here on this thread if needed. LETS GET SOME LAYWERS!!
Ya just Can't catch um from the couch.
Well it's not looking like I can make it to this awesome event anymore which bums me out. Good luck to all you guys! Looking forward to seeing the photos!
Long time since I've posted! I was up in the area and decided to see if they were biting. But either I can't remember where we got on the water or what I thought was the access is now posted as private. Can someone point me in the right direction. I'd hate to have you guys make the drive to find out it's no longer accessible.
Never mind I think I might've figured it out. I will head that way in a couple hours and fish till dark and let you guys know how it went.
Dang, I can't make it work this weekend, but may try to go up later, let me know how you guys do, and be safe on that frozen river water my friends!
Well after getting lost in the dark I finally made it. It's been 7 years since I've fished that spot. There was about 10 inches of ice. But lots of standing water on top of ice by shore. I ended up catching 6 pout in about 7 hours worth of fishing. It was definitely slow and the fish didn't seem aggressive. I hope that helps.
Cool to hear you got some burbot. Did you see any big females?
Mostly male I would assume. I only had one bigger one that could've been female that had a good belly on her.
If anybody is looking for company this weekend, I could stop out for a bit.
We may still try and make a run on the 20th to fish them and the invasives goby, ruffe, white perch in that area, the weather looks much better then so far, it's gonna be a cold weekend this weekend. I think their is five of us coming up anyone wants to meet up that'd be great. Can't wait to hear how you guys do this weekend. I got my pout on Ottertail Lake a few nights ago where FP got his, but we wanted to come up and hammer them with you guys or atleast get some good BS sessions going on the frozen tundra of MN!
Still planning to head up that way on the 20th to fish there and a couple other spots we've been researching. Anyone wants to meet up,we'll be there hopefully late morning early afternoon Saturday. Good luck gang and have a great weekend!!
