Catfish, Channel

Size:

14-15lbs

I was dinkin around with some smallmouth bass in the lower stretches of the good ol current river near Van Buren. Scared the absolute piss outta me when he followed in my streamer like a shark out of the depths and swallowed it in like a massive vacuum. Set the hook HARD on my 8wt and this fish ran like hell. 10 minutes later he was in my hands.

Awesome.

They sure fight like they are bigger than they are! Definitely not a 10#, but that must have been a truly exhilerating 10 minutes!!! Always a pleasure to see them attack your bait, too. Well angled!

Weight of the cat

Thank you sir it was a fun fight! We did have an old scale on us that isn't the most reliable but it fluctuated between 14.3-14.9 while trying to get a steady measurement on the thing! I don't know if that scale is that off

Cat on the fly

I've heard of it, but I've never actually caught one on the fly.That certainly doesn't look like a fifteen pound fish to me either, but it's still quite the catch.

Right size

We ended up calibrating the scale when we got home and it turns out it was reading about 2.5-3 pounds too much. We weighed a few dumbells to get it exactly right. Guess we just kinda got caught up in the excitement. Still my PB cat as the previous one was a lick over 5#.
