Male Longnose

Big enough for me

As it turns out, and as I suspected, the best runs of these things are in the largest river near me. Fresh from Lake Michigan, they are running in full force. There must be thousands in there. Today was the first day I was able to get out and chase them. Sadly, others got there first and the carnage on the riverbank could bring any good roughfisher to tears (this is one of the reasons I didn't walk up to the dam). On a happier note, I managed to catch a few fish, all Longnose. This was the prettiest one of the bunch. These Red Suckers are the hardest fighing suckers I've come across yet.

Thanks and especially to those of you who told me that I would get one eventually. I knew this would be the year.

There are so many in there. This is the only large tributary in this area of Lake Michigan so it's like all the Longnose from this section of the lake are in there at once. No, it's not the Menominee which is a bit of a drive for me. This is much closer. I'm hoping to get some on the fly next time!
