Bullhead, Yellow

Caught this trying to catch carp that were jumping by a river we walked to. No carp but a yellow bull, it was big enough where I didn't want to grab him without my gloves and I left them in my dad's truck, but it had yellow bottom feelers, sorry the picture isn't very good he was moving and so was I!! Oh, and never did catch those darn carp. 8)

Because there are no whisker shots of any of your bullhead catches, they will only count as one species out of the three. Look at other contestant entries for proper bullhead ID shots.

Maybe it should have been clearer what was expected dude. The only one questionable is this one (yellow) because you can't see the whiskers, but if it's not a yellow it's CERTAINLY not a black look at the markings. You can also look at the lifelist browns which all came from the same lake. I guess I don't even have a problem with it getting removed, what I think is pretty bad is the other bullhead you DQ'd, it's been on there since the 12th and you wait until the last day (when it's to late for him to catch another one) to DQ it? We straightened out the sunfish one (which I admited we were wrong) like the day after he caught and posted it so I know it's been looked at. What gives?

Oh, and for the proper ID shots, I was trying to get his face with all his fish and his button, not just a random hand with a fish that nobody cares to see. My mistake.

Just went and looked at some of the other ID shots, and Tony S (the Master himself)'s black bullhead has the same shot angle, same whiskers showing, and about the same size fish. Except the DQ'd one has the reddish tail and fins like the lifelist brown closeup on FP4LifesMom's entry and they are both from the same lake. Not really sure what it is you guys are looking for and looks like other people have similar problems.

Blacks can be id'd via the tail crescent, no other bully has. Yellows are very hard to id without whiskers visible. To me this fish looker like brown, see my yellow for what we look for on yellows. Mind you I couldn't say for sure from your pic

The Judges don't usually disqualify fish until after the contest is over. I only gave you a heads-up about the green sunfish to be nice, and to show you that proper identification is key. You can ask questions, like others here do about questionable Ids, and you can peruse our Fish Species pages to learn the key identifying characteristics of any fish. It's your responsibility to provide a clear photo of the identifying characteristics of the species.

If you expect me to look at every single fish entered in the contest as new entries flood in, it just isn't going to happen. Hell, I only got to fish three times during June because other things have kept me busy. If I had to zoom in and look at each bad photo of an entry, I'd go insane. We like to leave the insanity of looking through thousands of fish entries until July first.

Your son's brown bullhead entry looks like a black. The black is a black. The yellow is indertiminable because the photo does not show any identifying characteristics, but if you want to bring it to the forum for help or tell us exactly why you are sure of your identification, I'm willing to listen. Maybe looks like a brown, but can't say for sure at all.

I am very sorry if you misunderstood our standards of photos for the purposes of fish identification.

Thanks for the heads up, I don't want to argue either, it's a kids contest, I'm just tired of him checking his status then flipping out because he's lost fish again and I don't have the time to run him all over the state to try and recatch the same species. If you want I can change the yellow to a brown since that one certainly isn't a black, I should have flipped it back over so the bottom yellow feelers were visible. No, I don't expect you to look at every fish, all I was saying is today of all days for it to go off the board, not your fault. I hear ya on the fishing too every weekend is a funeral a graduation or something this year it sucks, summer is 1/3 over and we've done nothing.

TonyS, nice work man, and all the rest of you die hards who are over 20 fish, very impressive indeed! Good luck!

Thanks guys!

She hates holding fish, she is happy in this pic, but the next shot it bites down on her thumb and she flips into panic mode, I thought she was going to beat it against the boat she was flinging it around and I was laughing to hard to help her!
