Roughfishing cameras??
<p>&nbsp;</p> <div> I am a man of a thousand cameras, I&#39;ve probably had 10-15 high priced cameras and either lost, broken them, or had them stolen. With the revelation of micro fishing I want a camera that takes vivid pictures but also very detailed macro shots.&nbsp;</div> <div> &nbsp;</div> <div> Is there a camera preferred by rough fishers? Any camera nuts willing to chime in?</div>

The Pentax Optio WG2 has a cool feature: a ring of LEDs around the lens that turn on when you switch it to macro so your close subject is lit evenly. Great idea. Also waterproof/shockproof/etc. Takes very nice regular photos. Unfortunately, the macro feature (can focus to 1cm from the lens) takes shots at a very low resolution. I have one and other than the low resolution macro, it's been good so far. I mention it here to warn anyone who looks at it to consider the macro issue. I'm hoping there's some way they can update the firmware to increase the res.

Flip out screen!

I got me a Canon Powershot A610. Had it for over 6 years. I'm still very happy with it. Takes excellent fish photos.

Plus it's got a flip-out-and twist little screen. Not a lot of cameras have that. It's crucial when fishing alone. Makes shooting selftimer shots a WHOLE lot easier. I think so anyways...

Fishn sure is neat

I have an Olympus Stylus

I have an Olympus Stylus Tough 8010.  Avid has a similar model, his is a little nicer if I remember right.  That series is nice - shock proof (to 6' I think?) and waterproof.  Waterproof is essental to me.  I've tried "dry bags" - I hate them.  Destroyed several electronics in the high humidity environment of a sealed dry bag on a hot day.  As an avid canoe angler I hate dry bags I use them rarely, I'll leave dry bags to kayaking folks.  Taking underwater shots is cool but the fact is that my camera ends up in a puddle more often than not.  Fishing like I do often finds my gear starting on a rocky/sandy shoal only to be completely underwater by the time I leave...

(it should be noted that I'm exceptionally hard on gear and my opinions are based on that)

I love this camera so much that I just keep buying it even though newer models and technology keep coming out.  I have owned about 5 of these and for a point and shoot, it takes great pics including macros.  Check out my photos.

I also like it that it takes double AA batteries.  The newer models have a special battery now.  This is why I keep buying the older model.  In fact, I picked up an extra one just for when my current one breaks.  The nice thing about an older model is that they are inexpensive on ebay.

Each pic is about 3 meg which is plenty for my purpose.  If I bought the newer ones that shoot a 14 meg pic then I would fill up the space on my external hard drive unnessisarily.

Find out what Fiddle has, his pictures are always so crisp and perfect looking.  Just look at that Shorthead shot from his last ice outing post for them.  Best picture I've ever seen of a Redhorse!

Thanks everyone I'll be taking all of these into consideration especially cameras mentioned that take good micro shots. Should have it by the end of march in time to start spring fishing.

Half price waterproof pentax

Just got an email that the Pentax that I have, which takes good photos and is waterproof and has a macro feature that could be useful for microfishing as long as you're not planning to blow the photos up, is for sale (don't know how long) for $149 through Groupon. This link doesn't get me any referral bonus or anthing.

I've used mine under water but haven't put it through its paces in fishing situations much. Just got it at xmas. Hope to give it a good workout in the coming months--especially June.

I would just watch for stuff

I would just watch for stuff on sale, you can get a really nice camera for less than $150 if you wait and watch. I think you would have to get a camera forged in the fires of mount doom to with stand the stuff we put our poor little defensless cameras through....

How about....

How about you go to a local shop and ask for a demonstration? Most good shops will not mind.... Though I always feel guilty going in and getting good customer service and then ordering online.

Sometimes when you go into a local shop and tell them what deal you can get online, they'll do their best to at least approach it. I'd be willing to spend an extra $25-$50 to get something locally (and immediately). But it it's just a Best Buy or some other big chain, I'm not sure buying it locally is really any different than online. I suppose it does help the person who's getting a commission and is a little local sales tax, but if you have a real camera store in town I'd say it's worth a try. There aren't many around any more, and it's hard for them to compete.

I spotted this Sony cyber

I spotted this Sony cyber shot dsc wx50, sweet deal for $108.00, I was on a budget due to a nearing fishing trip so I couldn't get anything "top of the line" it would most likely get destroyed within the year knowing my fishing habits anyway. ill let everyone know how it works out. I was trolling review sites and ultimately this link talked me into it.
