So.... Snow + hurricane = one pissed-off (and cold) pyromaniac
Seriously, though, I just want to say to Normus, EeboneCapone, iam2crown, PMK00001, Meadeo, Nick Li, Deftik, J Dunfee, OmarfishesEgypt, and any other members who are in the path of this storm, please stay safe, stay warm, and check in to let us know you're OK.
Yeah, looks like Ma Nature is a wee bit angry out there. I hope all of you can ride out the storm in safety and comfort. Keep some emergency supplies on hand and be sure to check your basement for eels when it's all over.

One of the warmest winters, a very early spring, a mega drought, and now the biggest recorded storm to hit the north east. Me thinks there's something to this "climate change" after all
Stay safe folks, and hopefully your tidal rivers will normalize in time for my visit in two weeks.
Eli
Stay safe east coasters. My best wishes to all of you.

I've been sending out generaters non-stop to the east coast for over 2 weeks now. Bad storm fo' sho'!
Let there be fire!
My area wasn't hit very hard but it was bad enough to kill a 8 year old and 49 other people on the east coast. I think I've saw enough superstorms to last a lifetime.

Day 11 still no power or water here. Another storm last night. Heating with fireplace cooking on a camp stove. Still limited access in out of many places. Never seen such a disaster. Wife and kids have been real troopers. Still were thankful we didn't lose everything like so many others here.
Let there be fire!
Glad to know you and yours made it through OK or thereabouts.
Was thinking about you when I saw how hard the Jerseyside was hit.
Fishn sure is neat
After 17 dark days the power is finally back on. Life slowly returning to 'normal' in my neighborhood. Wish I could say the same for many others. This was the first time in my life that I was ever scared during a weather event of any kind. We were spared the torrential rain (and i'm not in a tidal flood zone) but the wind blew at 30-50mph with gusts up to 85mph- for 30 straight hours. It was like the most intense part of a wicked t-storm that just didnt stop. My family and I huddled in a stone wall portion of the first floor of the house, listening to our 100+ year old trees snapping and crashing all night. Part of the second floor was crushed by a massive spruce. That's when I realized we could potentially be killed here and near-panic sets in. Had to keep a level head for the wife and kids' sake. One tree dropped power lines on a neighbors house and all we could do was watch it burn, no way for fire company to get to it. Thankfully they had skipped town before the storm.
I had a feeling it was gonna be real bad so we prepped enough supplies to last two weeks and were fairly comfortable in the aftermath. Spent the days cutting and chopping wood, at night we kept a fire going and cooked on a camp stove or the grill. My little frog/bait pond supplied water to flush the toilets. House is all repaired. Kids are back in school (i'll admit they did drive us a little batshit crazy some nights without TV or electronics).
My thoughts and heart go out to all those who lost everything. In the end I really learned a lesson in being prepared and self-sufficient when necessary and am so proud of my family for sticking it out those 17 days. We really are at the mercy of mother nature, and she can be a total bitch sometimes. I hope i never have to live through another 'storm of a lifetime'.
I just can't imagine. That bad for that long. Crazy.
Hey, look at it this way. Ya sure bound the family ties together for life. Memories that will be shared for many Thanksgivings and Christmas' for years to come. God bless ya man!
DT has it nailed.
Glad you and your family are all alright. I can't imagine those 17 days after the full day of storm.
It is all perspective!
