Black Basses

The Black Basses actually belong in the sunfish group, but their appearance and behavior is different enough to warrant their own group. These are the rock stars of the mainstream angling world in North America. So why even talk about black bass on a roughfish website? Well, because bass fishing is loads of fun! You're inevitably going to catch some bass while roughfishing, since they occur almost everywhere and will bite on almost anything. Finally, there are some regional species of black bass (like the shoal, redeye, and coosa bass) that are highly unique and underappreciated - classic roughfish.

Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Spotted Bass, and their relatives.
