Redhorses

These large-scaled members of the sucker family include everything in the genus Moxostoma, including the "Jumprocks". Typically, but not always, redhorses sport orange or red fins and large, metallic scales. These fine sportfish are threatened by pollution and habitat destruction, but are still abundant in many of our clean and free-flowing rivers.

The Ojibwe word for redhorse is meskwaazhigwaneshi
